Maison Wessman - Alti Bugalys 2020
Alti Bugalys 2020
A beautifully refined and full-bodied Chardonnay from Maison Wessman’s Bugalys vineyard in the cool Upper Limoux Valley. Grown on clay-limestone soils at 300–400 metres above sea level, the highest plateau of the Limoux appellation, it benefits from a cool climate that allows the grapes to develop both richness and remarkable freshness.
Hand-harvested and pressed immediately on arrival at the winery, the wine is fermented in 300-litre French oak barrels and aged for nine months, with regular bâtonnage. Bright lemon-yellow with golden highlights, it opens with an intricate bouquet of citrus, white-fleshed fruit and gentle spices, with a subtle buttery note. The palate is rich, dense and beautifully textured, revealing ripe white fruit and a refined toasted-bread character, with the oak adding complexity rather than dominating the wine. Powerful yet elegant, with impressive depth and balance.
Created in collaboration with Andreas Larsson, Best Sommelier in the World ASI 2007 and ambassador for Bugalys, this is a serious, gastronomic Chardonnay with plenty of personality.
